This project was born out of improvisations that I made a couple of years ago to amuse myself while taking a break from the orchestral scores I was working on at the time.

I simply turned on my trusty ZOOM recorder and just played whatever came into my head,  following wherever it led me .... including many blind alleys and unforced errors.   I put the recordings in a drawer and forgot about them.

Then last summer I discovered them again,  and decided that they contained some quite promising material.  So I laboriously transcribed everything I had played onto written music,  enabling me to work on them,  eliminate the bits where I got lost,  correct the errors,  re-write and develop ideas.  Bit by bit I knocked the music into shape,  moulding and perfecting,  ending up with the 4 Improvisations that you have here.
